2023 Unwrapped
It’s been another exciting year for Carbon Responsible; the calendar was packed with industry conferences and networking which helped fuel our ongoing discussions with our clients about their path to net zero.
We continue to work with some forward-thinking companies; Arsenal F.C, Soho House, National Express and Gresham House to name just a few.
Here are some of our favourite moments from 2023:
1) We join the Netherlands-British Chamber of Commerce
In late summer, we were invited to join the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce. Pending regulations in the EU, namely the Consumer Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is going to further drive collaboration in the carbon accounting space. Our COO, Matt attended and spoke on a panel with the NBCC in Amsterdam in September to talk about the power of carbon accounting to drive OPEX savings while also creating a more sustainable business model.
2) Company retreat in Brighton
Sun, sea, sand and strategy! In May, the team came together to envision the future and create value for our clients. Hugo Kimber, our CEO commented “incredibly proud of our talented team of thought leaders helping to craft the Net Zero strategies of tomorrow.”
3) Innovation Zero
Our CEO and Founder Hugo took to the stage at this year’s Innovation Zero Conference 🎙️🌍
Hugo shared insights on reporting with confidence and executing emissions disclosure as a strategic advantage alongside Giuliana Victoria Cian of Horizon Capital and Hannah Mansour – Director of ESG at Arsenal FC. A fantastic conference showcasing how organisations can leverage emissions disclosure to drive sustainable success.
We’re looking forward to next year’s event and are already planning on an interesting panel which we’ve been asked to deliver. Stay tuned!
4) Created a decarbonisation pathway model
Our team have built tools to model NetZero targets so that they’re both robust and achievable, setting our partners on the path to decarbonisation.
We are proud to have used this in an emissions analysis for Ascot Racecourse’s Net Zero Village during the prestigious Royal Ascot event. By relying on battery-stored renewable electricity, and recycling or combusting most generated waste, Ascot Racecourse have reduced their Village emissions by a remarkable 30% compared to the generic (pre-2023) Village. Ascot Racecourse plan to extend these decarbonisation measures to the entire Royal Ascot and future events and we’re excited to help them on this journey.
5) Changes to Senior Leadership Team
We are delighted to welcome Ioannis to the team who joins as our Director of Commercial Partnerships to align with Sara who steps into a newly formed role; Chief Strategy Officer (formerly Chief Commercial Officer). Ioannis will be working with us to develop strong partnerships within the reporting and decarbonisation space, whilst Sara is now focused on driving our market position balanced with optimising key stakeholders and commercial alliances.
6) Sports fan Jack attends Sport Positive Summit
Can you bridge the gap between your corporate level goals and product-level impact? Are you leveraging local supply chains vs global? Just a few discussions aired at our favourite annual conference; Sport Positive Summit.
Climate Risk Analyst, Jack Thistlewayte commented: “It was great to meet so many passionate individuals and organisations committed to reducing environmental impact in sports. The commitment to sustainability in the sports industry is enormous and gives me great optimism for the future.”
7) Data Science & AI apprenticeship
Octavia commenced a Level 7 Data Science & AI apprenticeship, a master’s level program focussed on acquiring advanced data science skills in a business context.
“As part of this apprenticeship, I will engage in the development of data products and models tailored for our client needs and the company. Given the recent storm surrounding GenAI in business – watch this space!”
8) New work digs; Rise London
Towards the end of 2023, we relocated from our WeWork offices in Paddington to Rise London, located in Shoreditch. Created by Barclays, they have fostered a global fintech ecosystem made up of cutting-edge start-ups and scale-ups and we’re delighted to be part of their London hub; brilliantly looked after by Head of membership, Tony Margiotta and his team.
A few of the team are pictured above on the 5th floor – great space!
2024 is looking just as busy and we look forward to sharing more updates with you the New Year.
Have a great festive break and happy New Year! See you in 2024.
